This course focuses on providing skills and techniques to refine musical performances for both live streaming and services in a church setting. Students will learn the fundamentals of recording, sound mixing, and live mixing. They will also study songwriting, vocal techniques, and arranging music for multiple platforms. Additionally, through guided discussions and demonstrations, students will learn the principles behind presenting an effective and engaging performance. With the increased importance of technology in the delivery of music in modern settings, this course will emphasize the role technology plays in live streaming, virtual services, and delivery of music for a bridge between physical and virtual worlds. Ultimately, students will leave this course with greater confidence and a thorough understanding of how to refine and perfect musical performances for both the live streaming and church service settings.
Musicianship Disciplines in Gospel Music introduces students to the complexities of gospel music. It examines gospel music’s four main musical components – vocal technique, rhythm, harmony, and improvisation – while also exploring musical structures, chord progressions and musical analysis. Through this course, students gain a deep understanding of gospel music, enabling them to develop their musicianship and deepen their spiritual practice. The course includes demonstrations, instructional performances, lectures and group participation, as well as plenty of practice time. Musical elements like swing, syncopation and formal structures will also be discussed in depth. At the end of this course, students will have a deep understanding of gospel music and be able to participate and lead in a gospel setting.
This course focuses on ways to improve vocal tone quality, both for speaking and singing voices. Students will learn pitch, range, resonance, and vocal mechanics in order to improve their pitch, tone, and vocal power. Topics discussed include how to use diction, phrasing, and breathing exercises to improve vocal proficiency. Students will also learn about vocal health, including knowledge of the vocal cords, throat, and mouth structures that influence vocal production. Techniques on microphone usage, studio recording, and live performances will be explored. In addition, students will explore ways to better prepare for vocal performances and studio sessions, and discuss ways to extend vocal longevity.
This course will explore how to build meaningful relationships with your worship team and develop trust with one another. We will review the importance of having worship team members that are engaged and how to ensure multiple personalities can work together as a whole. We will discuss various topics related to developing a healthy team dynamic and look at various tools to help strengthen relationships and foster clear communication. We will also cover how to create a community and culture of trust, joy, and mutual respect among your worship team. Participants can expect to gain an understanding of how to build deeper relationships through active engagement and engaging activities.
Organizational Management for Worship Pastors is a course designed to provide worship pastors with the tools and knowledge to effectively lead a church's worship ministry. Through structured lectures, discussions, and activities, this course will explore organizational principles and management practices relevant to pastors in any faith-based organization. Special attention will be given to the unique roles, responsibilities, and dynamics of leading a worship ministry. Topics of discussion will include models of effective leadership, conflict resolution, team building, delegation, and strategic planning. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of management competencies, as well as best practices on subject matters such as communication, creativity, financial stewardship, and legal considerations. At the end of the course, each student will learn how to effectively serve their church through greater organizational management skills.
This course will help participants better understand the Pastor and Worship Pastor relationship and the associated roles and responsibilities. We will explore the intricate dynamics of the senior pastor and worship pastor relationship, and discover the unique giftings and personalities of both. We will look at the roles and responsibilities held by each and the mutual respect that should exist between the two. We'll explore areas of support, as well as when to stand firm and when to compromise. We'll learn proper conflict resolution skills and cover the expectation of the church's leadership. By the end of this course, participants should have a greater understanding of the pastoral partnership and their roles within it.
This course will provide an introduction to digital platforms and their use in promoting your church music. Students will gain an understanding of digital branding and how to use different platforms to increase presence and visibility and extend reach. Topics to be covered include digital platform goals, network layout, web presence and website design, content creation and engagement, promotion through social media and digital advertising, email marketing and content marketing. The course will discuss best practices and creative strategies for promoting your church music. The course will also provide hands-on training in these areas, as well as an overview of potential pitfalls and ethical considerations with digital marketing. By the end of this course, students will have learned about digital platforms and the most effective strategies for increasing exposure and promoting your church music through these channels.
This course offers an in-depth look at music copyright, publishing, licensing, and their application to the church setting. We will examine topics such as copyright basics, intellectual property, artists’ rights and responsibilities, and copyright law related to church entities. We will also consider aspects of publishing and licensing deals, including contract negotiation, and explore how they relate to the church setting. Additionally, we will discuss the impact of digital distribution and streaming services on the music industry, how to negotiate and create successful licensing deals, and how to manage music copyright and publishing issues within churches. After this course, students will have gained a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of music copyright, publishing and licensing as it relates to the church.
This course is designed to provide guidance to gospel musicians on diversifying their revenue streams. Students of the course will learn about different ways to increase their income in the gospel music industry, including direct marketing techniques, media partnerships, and crowdfunding. Students will also explore methods for adapting existing business models and develop plans for their own individual projects. By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge to diversify their revenue streams and supplement their income.
